View Full Version : XR4Ti's CHEAP 2.3 liter TURBO $800 each

That's right, 2.3 liter turbos. That, the clean exteriors, good wheels and tires, and the $800 price tag are the good news. Bad news is cracked dashes, no A/C, no radio, and automatics.

$1400 for both ;)

Red one runs 20 psi all day. Silver one has a bigmaf and no tuning yet so it gets great gas mileage ;)

I want one. But I just made a big purchase.

I assume the silver one runs on 87 while the red one need 93.

Either will be great for a daily driver. I may have to give you a call Scott. :p

the red is '86, the silver '87. Both just over 100k. The've both been daily driver's for 5 years.... the red one has a new tranny, the silver one has a slight, occasional tranny-cooler leak... but it has a really nice dual exhaust. They both pass emissions...

These things want really badly to be like the old Cosworth Escorts.... I think. Or Cosie's as the Brits call em'.

Keep in mind I'd like to know what the major differences are, and that is why I posted that last part.

I think they're on a different platform than the Escort. Back in the 80s they were sold in Sweden (and probably the rest of Europe) as Ford Sierra. I think there was a Cosworth version of it.

I think Rolling-trip is getting the silver one and Moose the maroon one. Slizan has next dibs, and then Jakeisajedi. I should raise the prices ;)

Yeah, didn't Cosworth sell their own verion of the XR4Ti in europe? anyone know mor about this?

bluetwo
05-06-2006, 05:54 PM
All I know is Europeans call their version Cosies and they're pretty cheap there.

Obviously Cosworth had something to do with some kind of high speed Escorts back when but I don't remember that much about what I've heard.

I'd research it right now but I'm on a PDA and it just wouldn't work so well.

Yep, I plan to garage it for a decade or so hoping that Scott becomes a world famous racer. Then I'll ebay it as a Scott 'signature' model Merk and retire. :)

Pretty sure they're both gone... I know for a fact one is sitting in my garage right now. :naughty:

Check out craigslist -- lots of 80s Volvos on there for cheap. Might be able to score a reliable driver.

the other one is at my work. one of the rockers fell off and destroyed a cam lobe. just bought a roller camshaft upgrade for it.

I just did the usual tune up of cap rotor wires and plugs this morning. Ford dealership doesn't carry plug wires for it anymore, and said they couldn't get them either. let me know if you come across the service manual online somewhere. I've found a few message boards than seem to have good info.

I bought the service manual on CD for like ten bucks. Once it gets here I'll burn you a copy if you want.

I'm going to do the full merk forum tuneup list, which is pretty substantial, but involves replacing/cleaning most everything that'd normally break or wear out.

dont worry about it. it's fun to work on old broken cars. Gives me something to tinker with and allows me to stop putting so many miles on the FXT. I'll just have to stop myself from getting too crazy with it;)
